LAVA: THE AFTERMATH – Iceland

In March 2021, a volcanic eruption began in the Geldingadalir Valley on the Reykjanes Peninsula in Iceland - only about 30 km from the capital Reykjavík. The eruption at Fagradalsfjall Mountain lasted with brief interruptions of volcanic activity until mid-September 2021, when eruptive activity began again on August 3, 2022. The Reykjanes Peninsula had not previously experienced a volcanic eruption in nearly 800 years.

This series shows images of cooling lava, a newly formed and unique landscape in many facets and colors. However, it takes a very long time for the lava to completely cool down, even if it looks the opposite on the surface.
