Tlecan
The Client
Tlecan is a mezcaleria specialized in curating and selling artisanal Mezcal from small producers in Mexico.
The Objective
Create a brand honoring Mezcal, a traditional Mexican drink, and in this way pay tribute to the ritual of drinking mezcal in one of the most iconic spaces in Mexico City: La Colonia Roma. The created brand must refer to the ancestral cultures that inhabited the region: the Teotihuacan culture and later the Aztec culture.
The Solution
We conceptualized the idea of representing the element of fire on the brand and the space since the process of making the legendary mezcal has fire as its fundamental basis. With this, we developed the name Tlecan which means "place of fire" in Nahuatl (the language of the Aztecs).
The architecture of the place is inspired by the feeling transmitted when entering a pre-Hispanic tomb and by the modernist architecture of Mexico City. As part of the interiors we decided to pay a special tribute to the sculpture from the Mesoamerican Classic Period titled: Disc of Death for its simplicity and geometric sophistication. The piece was commissioned to Tezontle Estudio.

Tlecan, es una mezcalería especializada en la curaduría y venta de Mezcal artesanal proveniente de pequeños productores de México.
Crear una marca honrando al mezcal, una bebida tradicional mexicana, y de esta forma rendir tributo al ritual de beber mezcal en uno de los espacios mas icónicos de la Ciudad de México: La Colonia Roma. La marca creada debe hacer referencia a las culturas ancestrales que habitaron en la región: la Cultura teotihuacana y posteriormente la Cultura azteca.
La Solución
Conceptualizamos la idea de representar el elemento del fuego en la marca y el espacio ya que el proceso de hechura del mezcal legendario tiene al fuego como su base fundamental. Con esto, desarrollamos el nombre Tlecan que significa "lugar de fuego" en Náhuatl ( el idioma de los aztecas ).
La arquitectura del lugar esta inspirada en el sentimiento transmitido al entrar en una tumba prehispánica y en la arquitectura modernista de la Ciudad de México. Como parte de los interiores decidimos hacer un tributo especial a la escultura del Periodo clásico mesoamericano: Disco de la Muerte por su simplicidad y sofisticación geométrica. La pieza fue comisionada a Tezontle Estudio.
