Client: BBC
Brand: CBBC

Brief
CBBC, CBeebies’ older sibling channel for children aged 6-12, produces and airs a wide range of programmes including popular shows ‘Blue Peter’, ‘Horrible Histories’ and ‘The Nowhere Boys’. Continuity links were occasionally pre-recorded, but often filmed live in the studio in the BBC’s iconic Television Centre.

The production team for CBBC’s digital channel, CBBC Extra, needed a number of printed graphic props designed for a scripted VT celebrating Red Nose Day. These included a locker sign for a presenter showdown and graphics for a honey shop owned by one of CBBC’s dog puppet presenters - these had to appeal to the channel’s viewers and complement the CBBC brand.

During school half term holidays, CBBC also ran a scheduling campaign - the ‘CBBC Takeover’ - where guest presenters were invited to host the links between programmes. The CBBC studio needed a themed makeover to maintain consistency with the CBBC Takeover branding.

Solution
As a production runner on set, I delivered original print-ready artwork drawn freehand in Photoshop. The bold, colourful graphics were created with a youth audience (as well as visibility on camera) in mind.

Briefed by the Stage Manager, I also artworked a printed foamex panel to place on the front of the presenters’ desk. This involved liaising with Red Bee, the BBC’s production partners, to obtain campaign assets, and raising Purchase Order numbers for their preferred print suppliers.
