That architecture can only be fully understood as a process of planning, building, inhabiting, and altering is something that rarely becomes experienceable – thanks not least to the architects themselves, who regard their works as sacrosanct and like to present them to the observer as static structures in the brief transitional period between construction and use.

In this book, Till Schneider and Michael Schumacher enabled us to bring planning, use, and reflection into view as the visible foundations of their work. The volume is structured by the drawings of the approach phase and the buildings in actual use, and in interviews the architects offer direct insight into their thinking about the projects. A workbook and sketchbook.
