Proyecto "Agua-Azul"

“…How nice it would be if we could only
get through into looking-glass house! I’m
sure it’s got, oh! Such beautiful things in
it! Let’s pretend there’s a way of getting
through into it, somehow… Let’s pretend
We’re kings and queens…” Lewis Carroll, 'Through the looking glass”'.

This project is all about 'ground', manipulated landscape. The project starts with the idea of taking the real world of established geometries, natural environments, existing artifacts, and placing them inside of an unreal space, emulating the narrative structure of Lewis Carroll’s fairy tales “Alice in Wonderland” and “through the looking glass”. The project requirements separated the site in two. The first “area of intervention”: an area along a corridor, composed of several street blocks with different kinds of infrastructure (the main plaza, public and commercial buildings, as well as some green areas). The second “area of influence”: green area/ park (lots of trees, a lake, existing structures/ buildings and a bridge).
Our response to the project places a virtual mirror in between both areas that work as an architectural axis. We reflected (by mirroring) and transformed (by scaling) the “area of influence” into the “area of intervention”, tracing the reborn diagram into the existing land. Thus the new space is a reflection of a distorted reality. It’s the creation of a virtual space that comes and substitutes the real, giving birth to an alternated space, parallel to the existing areas. - Everything you see is building both landscape and the lines you see occupying space. The organization comes from the connections between two sites. Nobody is drawing a facade, this is a result too of the transformation and the connection of the strategies. The bridge that crosses the street acts as an element of connection. The bridge connects the project from East to West. - The new space is delineated by a duality similar to 'Alice’s physique' in Lewis Carroll’s novels. Where for one of the characters (the red king), Alice is just a kind of thing in his dreams, having two roles in the story's structure: dreamer/dream - dream/dreamer.
