The next several posts about the Gospel Life Church of Bowie site, which recently went live, will detail how my design process has played out in individual pages of the site. This first post in the series will explain the design for the site's homepage.
This lower-fidelity Axure prototype was presented to the church in a members' meeting and was well-received.
When I started development, I had already launched the responsive Coaster Crew Network Portal site; the new Coaster Crew site's WordPress migration was underway. These sites both leveraged responsive design technologies, which had been an intention of the Gospel Life Church of Bowie site. I laid out the live site's pages manually using Zurb Foundation 4.3 before migrating them to WordPress.
The new site uses the Purity premium WordPress theme, with a great deal of custom CSS styling.
The Purity theme came with separate navigation menus for desktop and tablet widths. For this site's larger navigation menu, a separate menu for tablets in portrait orientation was necessary. Through CSS experimentation, I came up with this. Each navigation button has a rollover style in blue.
The screen appears like this on larger mobile displays. Smaller mobile displays hide the slider at the top.
