25 years of music in EKKO
EKKO is a venue in Utrecht (NL) and is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2011. And what better way to celebrate this moment than to record all the beautiful music history that is written in EKKO – and also the authenticity and quality that EKKO stands for – with the release of special anniversary vinyl.
Under the name of EKKO RECORDINGS, the venue will release 2 vinyl records containing some of the highlights of the past 25 years. The vinyl comes in two parts: the period from 1986 to 1998 and from 1998 to 2011.
What's special about this project is that it is both crowdfunded as well as crowdsourced. The vinyl is not only financially made possible by donors, the content is determined by the public and donors as well. Through the EKKO website people can vote on the highlights of these periods. The voice of supporters double-counts and so they have more influence on the final composition.

The pattern on the recordsleeve is created by hammering black carpet nails into layered black foamboard and wood. The pattern is produced by white sewing thread between the nails. The total amount of nails used per design is 1800 per recordsleeve, so over 3600 nails were uses to create both designs.
