This was completed during our Masters at Dalhousie University within coastal studio and is a collaboration with four other students. The Studio’s task was to enliven the streetscape of Cheticamp, NS on Cape Breton Island to raise attention to the Acadian Culture and utilize the wind in the process. The five members collaborated, designed, and built a mobile canteen for intermission during Theater Shows and for a concession along the boardwalk.

 

The idea is based around a faceted crystalline sculpture armoured when in motion but folds out to expose a warm interior. The windmill extends out when in operation to allow for access into the structure. With the help of electrical engineers, The windmill charges two batteries that run the interior lights and also can be used to power small appliances. The platform and wings fold out along the sides to serve. It was featured at the Halifax Parade of Lights, where we won the best float award and tested the windmills power and capabilities.
