Consideramos que este espacio, es un área muy especial en el funcionamiento del hostal, ya que funge como espacio común o lugar de encuentro. Tomamos la decisión de respetar el nombre que tiene, “La sala de la abuelita”, ya que contemplamos que el nombre invita a que el usuario imagine que este espacio es precisamente eso, “la sala de la abuelita”, donde todos se reúnen, un lugar donde todos son bienvenidos y así adopta un carácter acogedor que invita a estar y a compartir.
La intención es dejar el piso actual de color amarillo tal y como esta, como un testimonio del paso del tiempo, así como los sillones, donde se han sentado muchos visitantes que pasan por allí y con su presencia van conformando la historia de este sitio y forjando el carácter añejo y hogareño del mismo.
Sobre el muro donde descansa el sillón doble, se propone colocar la colección de fotos existente en el lugar, así como con el paso del tiempo ir incrementando las fotografías con imágenes de los viajeros que pasen por allí.
Todos los muros de la sala y el plafón, son de color rosa mexicano, haciendo así un homenaje a los colores de nuestro país, a la alegría de su gente, de sus mujeres (madres) y a las amorosas abuelitas que caracterizan nuestros hogares, dándole también un carácter contemporáneo, local y divertido al espacio. A través del uso del stencil, logramos “imprimir” texturas en los muros que le dan movimiento al lugar y una identidad mas contemporánea.
En la esquina donde ahora se encuentra el mueble del garrafón, proponemos forrar ambos muros que la conforman, utilizando tarimas de obra como único material. Así se lee esta esquina monocromática como un solo elemento, que contrasta de manera interesante con el color rosa mexicano de los muros y el plafón, entre estas tarimas se van generando “ranuras” en distintas partes de su estructura, en donde se pueden insertar tablas para distintos usos, tales como; libreros, portavasos, etc. Con el mismo material se propone crear un escritorio-mueble y poder así generar un área donde el visitante pueda sentarse a escribir o posiblemente colocar una computadora para poder hacer uso de internet.
La intención del proyecto es poder jugar con el contraste entre el pasado y el presente, a través de los colores, las texturas, los materiales (la madera) y que el visitante pueda tener una experiencia de estar en un sitio actual, que recuerda su pasado, pero que reconoce y se adapta al cambio constante.
Pimpollo project is our entry for the contest organized by Casa San Gallito Hostel (located in Queretaro’s historic center), which invited local artists and designers to participate in the renovation of their new location.
We chose the living room because we believed that this space is a special area in the functioning of the hostel, as it serves as a common area and meeting point. We decided to respect the name it had, “Grandma’s living room” because the name invites the user to imagine a space where everyone gathers, where everyone is welcome, and its coziness invites you to share and interact.
The intention was to leave the current yellow floor and yellow sofas as witnesses of time, where many visitors have passed by and their presence makes the history of this room vintage and homey. On the main wall is placed a photo collection that over time will be increased with the images of the hostel traveler’s guests.
The walls and ceiling are painted with a vibrant mexican pink, making a tribute to the colors of our country, to the joy of its people, their wives, mothers and loving grannies that characterize our homes, giving also a contemporary, local and fun character to the space. Through the use of stencil we “printed” textures on the walls giving the place movement and a contemporary identity.
In the right corner we installed a specially designed furniture that occupies both walls using wood pallets as single material. This monochromatic corner is read as a single element, which contrasts interestingly with the hot pink of the walls and the ceiling, between these platforms are generated voids in different areas of the structure where wood tables can be inserted for different purposes. With the same material we built a desk-cabinet to generate an area where visitors can sit and write or use their computer
The intention of the project is to play with the contrast between past and present through the colors, textures, and materials. The visitor can have the experience of being in a space that recalls its past but recognizes and adapts to constant change.
