48 Hour Magazine Submission

48 Hour Magazine
My submission to this magazine experiment
48 Hour Magazine is an experiment where people across the globe where asked to submit entries such as articles, interviews, photoshoots, illustrations, book reviews, etc, etc dedicated to a specific theme. The theme was announced at a specific time. Then people around the world had 24 hours in total to submit their entires. After those 24 hours were over the staff and editors would use the next 24 hours to complete the magazine, after which it would immediately go on sale. A complete magazine created within a 48 hour timespan.

I was extremely excited about the project from the start and couldn't wait to participate, so when the first theme was announced I jumped to the opportunity to make some illustrations for it.

The theme of issue Zero was "Hustle". Which I took in the literal sense and made 2 digital paintings. The first one was based on the original album cover of the song "The Hustle" by Van McCoy. Depicting a beautiful black woman dancing in an orange dress. The second painting I did was a contemporary counterpart to that. A young woman from the present, dancing in neon colors and a modern outfit.

Everything was painted directly into photoshop. Starting with a black background and building up my paintings using highlights and splashes of color to suggest structure and movement.

My entry was one of the roughly 50 entries selected from the 1504 submissions to be part of the actual magazine, which can now be bought at the following website: magcloud.com
