3D Tic-Tac-Toe
For my EK156 Design & Manufacturing class this semester, we had to design and build a small project with a group of classmates.  I came up with the idea for a three dimensional tic-tac-toe board, and my team helped bring it to a reality.  After many hours spent on Solidworks, designing, and calculations, we had a project ready to be machined.

We even had to order all of our own materials, and the entire game board is made out of clear acrylic.  The colored pieces are spraypainted white HDPE, basically cutting board material.  With the expert help of Bob Sjostrom, we machined out the parts comprising our project and held them together using a special type of welding glue.  Everything was custom machined besides the plastic lazy-susan and clear plastic hinges on the lid.

The game itself becomes compoundedly more difficult in three dimensions, and feels almost like chess.  You have to think at least 5 moves ahead at all times.  Overall, the project came out great, it was a ton of work, but we're all very satisfied with the end product.  Special thanks to Brendan Hathaway and Kiley Monahan for being such great teammates, and thanks to Marc Beneck for whipping up some really nice renderings.
