Howling Wolf Longboard
refurbishing my carving machine
This was my first longboard that got me so into the sport and a world of fun so few people know about. By the end of the first year, the bottom was all stickered and began looking very ugly, so I thought it was time for a makeover. Using woodburning as my main technique of decoration, along with a bunch of coats of polyurethane, I was able to bring out the true beauty in this organic carving machine.
The original graphic on the bottom of the deck when the board was brand new.
The front of the board, and a view of the deck's concave.
The original grip tape on the deck.
Design accents on the side of the deck.
The final woodburned design on the bottom of the deck, all done freehand.
The deck after several coats of polyurethane to guarantee resiliance against water and scrapes.
The new grip tape design, reflecting the "Howling Wolf" logo on the bottom of the board, but in reverse.
The final grip tape design on the top of the skateboard deck. The contrast of the light maple wood with the black grip tape looks amazing in person.
The final refurbished board, assembled with new trucks and new wheels.
The bottom of the final board, showing off the new trucks and wheels, and my brass knuckle system used to wheel the board around when you're not riding it.
