A large family approached the practice in early 2015 with a dream to build a series of unique homes up high overlooking the ocean.
The houses would accommodate the needs of each family member and provide for 3 generations of kin.
The houses appear as individual elements but are connected by a two storey undercroft, for parking, storage and interconnected living spaces. The dwellings are also united by a communal private courtyard to the rear.
The architecture explores the predictability of the Welsh climate and responds to this with overhangs and cantilevers, providing protection within a series of dynamic forms. The architecture therefore becomes an expression of the environment, providing physical and emotional shelter.
Material considerations have involved research into local geology and regional forms. Many of the design decisions have been based on the metaphorical and lyrical abstraction of these elements.
