Kids Allowed Community Centre – Shadow Guidance

As part of the BRE Guidance it’s said that amenity spaces are recommended to appear adequately sunlit throughout the year, atleast half the garden or amenity area should receive at least two hours of sunlight on the 21st March. If as a result of a new development an existing garden or amenity area does not meet the above , and the area which can receive two hours of sun on 21st March is less than 0.8 times its former value, then the loss of Sunlight is likely to be noticeable.

With this project you see before you I was involved in showing the client of a Children’s Community if the neighbouring and proposed amenity spaces would be receiving enough Sunlight in relation to a newly proposed building. The land as you can see has an area with a higher than normal density of trees, this had to be taken into consideration when undertaking the assessment.
