Here is my winning entry for the second annual design competition run by FiliFest - a student led festival whose mission it is to celebrate Philippine culture and make it accessible for Filipinos and non-Filipinos alike.

The brief called for a design to symbolise Filipino culture and to incorporate the FiliFest 2020 logo. The winning design would then be adapted for use on merchandise.
My design draws on inspiration from Filipino tattoos to create a landscape and highlights the nature of Filipinos through the Carabao - a prominent animal native to the Philippines.

The Baybayin (an ancient writing script that was used in the Philippines before being colonised by Spain) states the characteristics of the Carabao which are: 'Lakas at Kakayahan' and 'Tiyaga at Sipag' which translates to 'Strength, Ability, Perseverance and Hard Work' in English.
FiliFest 2020 was held online due the Coronavirus pandemic and limited edition postcard bundles were produced to commemorate the event.

Below are visualisations of the design adapted to suit various types of merchandise such as stickers, canvas bags and t-shirts.
