Since 1995, I have worked as a professional educator in photography and the fine arts working with all ages from 9 to 90 at all levels from special needs outreach to undergraduate degree level. In 1999 I founded the Irish Gallery of Photography's digital imaging program and designed the syllabus prior to becoming the lecturer of Digital and evolving technologies on the BA Photography program at The Dunlaoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT). While instructing at IADT I contributed to the development of the BA syllabus document and became the tutor of photography on the BA Fine Art access program.
I resigned from IADT in 2008 to establish a fine art printing studio Exhibit A Studios. The studio quickly gained a reputation as Ireland's premier photographic exhibition print studio and consequently I developed a relationship with Canon Ireland facilitating printing workshops and training.
In 2012 I returned to full-time education for a Masters in Visual and Critical Studies, as a practice based researcher, which was completed in September 2013 when I moved to the UAE.
As a professional photographer I have maintained a practice in parallel with my role as an educator. My work has specialised in artwork documentation, which complements my deep understanding of colour management from capture to print, and food photography having photographed over a dozen cookbooks working with many of Ireland's top chefs.
Most recently I presented my recent and current research as a visiting lecturer to undergraduate Social Science students at University College Galway, wrote a point of sale digital printing guide for a leading printer manufacturer, developed custom lens profiles for the software company Almalence, and my most recent cookbook publication is 'Dr Eva Orsmond's 10lb diet' (2014).
