This is the kind of results you get when you combine old-school illustrating - old-school meaning by hand - and digital refining. The effects you get using paint brushes, acrylic artist paints on certain types of thick paper can hardly be computer-generated or if so, only with a hell of a lot of work. Background, shadows, high-lights, spot light and a little cleaning were added/done in Photoshop.
