SAFFRON
Watercolour Botanical Illustration
Hello Everyone,
I am truly captivated by how beautiful saffron flower is. I hope I reflect it to my art. It was a pleasure for me to paint this beauty.

For this artwork I chose to work with Saunders Waterford 100% cotton Hot Pressed watercolour paper, Escoda Optimo Kolinsky Sable No 4, 2 and 1 Brushes and Daniel Smith Cerulean Blue, Cobalt Violet Deep, Cobalt Violet, Carbazole Violet professional watercolour paints.

I chose a couple of photos of the flower for studying the subject. And then I finalized the sketch for transferring the drawing to watercolour paper.
I used Canson’s 55gsm tracing paper for this process. After finishing the line art, I painted the first layer of the watercolour wash with the thought of flower’s shadows.
When I was satisfied with the form and shape of the flower I started to add vein details but I preserved the central part with masking fluid for later.
