For many years, I absolutely refused to see myself as any sort of illustrator. That was something that I called Bill Mayer or Mark Andreas to do. I always drew and painted, but considered that a very personal process and product. I often would "pinch-hit" and do illustrations for projects when time was short and budgets tight. Finally, as I began to address the divide between my Bauhaus design side and my expressionist paintings, I became confident in illustration.
