Random Sketches #3

Here are few random renders I did for fun the last few months .
Some of them are inspired by other photos while other are just to test a specific technique.
few of them are done also  during the private beta for VRay 5.0 to test features like the new frame buffer, light mixer and the new material library.

This one is based on Marcy Avenue Apartments designer by by Studio Esnal
The modeling is done using RailClone for the facade, the windows and the blind inside .
The light is just VRay Sun / Sky system.
This one is simple studio lighting excrement
inspired by an image from Moving Mountains Instagram account .
Here is the lighting rig :

I usually go with much simpler lighting rig , but for this one tried to go a bit farther and experiment with different technique .
This one is just a box with "Jsplacement" Texture and displacement .
I've used the output map to take small range of the texture and use it for self-illumination slot.
Jsplacement  is cool pattern map generator and it is Free! = D
check it from the link below :

Here is the shader network:
Tip: using Vray HDRI map ( now renamed to VRay bitmap in V5.0)  will give much better filtering for the bump texture( or any map ) than Max Bitmap.
This one is pretty simple, but here I'm testing  the new built-in materiel librarythat come with VRay 5.0 : ))
Quick 20 min doodle using the famous Greeble modifier slapped with sci-fi texture and some fog on top : ))

This is old one, I think it is started with testing a tree shader and camera  DOF and ended as a complete sketch  : ))
I know I'm late to the party, but finally I had the chance to test the new update for Quixel Bridge and it is awesome! the new 3D preview and the speed of export is great !
I did this quick sketch while testing the new update ,it wasn't intended to be a full project but I carried on and did some Photoshop-ing over the raw render and this what I got.
the original idea is from Mason Menzies work that he did years back for Poliigon rock collection
(Sorry for the very low resolution   )
This project was done during Facebook live ( based on a photo )
I took  it  further later and did this close up with some caustics  (VRay + PS)
Another quick sketch with VRay Next I did last year .
Car model can be found here

and the Hdri / backplate is here :

sketch for fun after long working day !
The sea is simple plan with displacement using Phoneix FD ocean tex .
VRay Next for rendering
Forest pack for the greenery .
and minimal post in Photoshop .
btw it is based on real location if anyone is interested to visit it : ))
Tokoriki Island Resort, Mamanuca Islands, Fiji .
(C)instagram / jcasasc .
Another car render, but this time with HDRI from the awesome  Onur Dursun
Check his stuff here :

Inspired from an image I've seen recently by @sketchyfx I did this quick render and of course tyFlow was used to add some magic ;)
it is super simple setup but here is the file if anyone is interested (Max 2017)

With all the resources that we have currently, it is much easier than ever to make  good renders comparing to 15 years back when I started  .
in this one I'm using my favorite trees resource ( MaxTree) :
https://www.maxtree.org/products/plant-models-vol-14/
with my favorite HDRI resource
( 3dcollective along side with HDRi haven and CGSource)

while the Embrace chair from one of the the best  furniture resources (dimensiva ):  .
