The little book of stars: Mohawk Paper Promotion book

Mohawk Fine Papers is a state-of-the-art manufacturer of premium card stock, paper, and envelopes. They have beautiful colors and textures that pair with Mohawk’s strong environmental stance to produce exceptional products.

the challenge.

Produce a Paper promotion book for Mohawk that showcases few of their many different fine paper that they have to offer. The challenge was to base the book off of something the people would be interesting in reading about as well as to produce a book that one would want to keep on their coffee table.

the solution.

Astrology is spreading in a blooming, unfurling way these days. Whether it be reading their horoscopes everyday or using the zodiac signs to relate to one that has the same sig or categorizing "the signs as..." literally anything: like cat breeds, or cartoon character, types of french fries. People turn to astrology in possible times of crisis and for someone tell them the future is gonna be okay. With this paper promotion book, I wanted to talk about the more technical side of astrology.

the result.

SCAD Secession 2020 Finalist
Each year the SCAD Graphic Design department produces "Secession," a professional-quality portfolio book capturing the best and most recent student work. This project was a finalist for the 2020 issue of SCAD Secession.
The cover

It is a Night sky map with several different constellation as well as the zodiac constellations. Only the zodiac constellations and the Mohawk logo are foiled in gold to bring emphasis to the point that this book is specifically about astrology for Mohawk papers. The foil gives the cover a nice little interactive moment for the viewer too as they would have to move around the book in different lighting to reveal the gold foil.
The book explores many 4 different paper types such as Black Cardstock, Vellum, Ginger Feltmark and Smooth White. It showcases foiling on the Black Cardstock as well as the Vellum.
There is another interactive moment in the book with a mini spin-wheel. It shows the different zodiac constellations where the viewers is able to spin the wheel to view each constellation and name one by one.
All of the zodiac sign chapter is on the Ginger Feltmark paper to differentiate the section from the rest of the book. The paper also has a very nice finish to it which broadens the tactile experience.
And lastly, there is a "giveaway" for the viewer with stickers of the Chinese Zodiac signs at the end of the book.
