the challenge.

Design an exhibition for Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) that is true to their mission and vision which "is to advance the understanding and appreciation of design as the convergence of creativity and functionality through exhibitions, education, and programming for visitors of all ages."   

Our professor came into our class with hat full of pieces of paper with random words on them. Each student had to pick one piece without looking. And what did I pick? The word "balls." 

The main challenge was to find something that was related to the word "balls" and create an exhibition that matched MODA's vision and mission statement of bringing the community together with design. 

Soccer is a sport that has built communities, careers, and childhood. It is a part of several cultures around the world and has helped change the world into a better place. And hence, KICKOFF is a hypothetical Museum Exhibition design for the Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA.) It showcases the history of the World Cup Innovation by showing the progression of design of soccer balls.

the goal.

— Interest soccer lovers through the aspect of soccer ball design
— Bring people of all backgrounds together to grow as a community with the shared loved of Soccer.

the solution.

— Two interactive areas with the soccer ball pit and the mini soccer field
Workshop area where visitors can design soccer ball graphics; Visitors can take the soccer ball they design in the workshop
— Chance to win two tickets to the next Atlanta United FC soccer game
— Laptop stickers as takeaway items

While it was fun to come up ideas on what actually would be at the exhibition, the assignment was to create the branding for the exhibition.

the idea.

The goal for the branding of the exhibition was to capture energy at a soccer game. I did this with the use of bold, loud typography. With the use of repetition,  the word "KICKOFF" aimed to represent the chanting of fans at a soccer game. The color palette was inspired by the soccer field.
Other than creating a key art for the exhibition, the project required other marketing materials to be designed as well. I decided to design a linen bag, soccer ball cards, and a video promotion ad.
