My theme for the Book of Contrasts was "Silly & Serious." With this prompt I really wanted to work with different expressions. I thought it was interesting to communicate the idea of "Silly & Serious" with simple vector illustrations of people because we can always tell the mood of a person based off of their facial expressions.
I kept a consistency in working with line weight and illustrations for my endpages pattern. For typography, I wanted to continue to communicate the theme. I chose the more organic san seriff font, "Scriptorama Markdown", for "Silly" and a more punctual seriff font, "Javanese Text", for "Serious."
I decided to give each spread its own facial expression with a centered profile view. I also chose to display the silly expressions in color and the serious expressions in black and white to help the spreads have more of a contrast. For the silly pages, I wanted to use very saturated and vibrant colors but also keep a consistent five colors so that the pages would not feel too busy.
