BANANA STICKERS — COLLECTION BOOK
The prompt for this project was to showcase a collection (of any sort) in a book format.
As I’m an absolute banana lover, this felt like the perfect opportunity to highlight this fruit in a graphic project. Thus, me and those around me (who were kindly willing to help), began searching and collecting stickers that come on bananas we buy in the supermarket. Afterwards, I began sketching and idealising the possibilities of what I could create with these elements. As I am Portuguese (from Porto, the North) and also an avid fan of our typical popular sayings and expressions, the idea of combining these two topics felt really compelling.

And so, as follows, this project consists of a short collection of bananas stickers, categorised according to Portuguese popular sayings, which are individually illustrated along the way according to their meaning.

Mais que as mães — "More than the mothers", an expression which means "a lot of something".
These stickers were some of the most abundant in supermarkets.

[sapos] Para dar e vender— "[frogs] To give and to sell", also meaning "a lot of something".
Alongside Del Monte's stickers, there are also a lot of Rainforest Alliance's stickers in bananas, which constitute a symbol and guaranty of good social and environmental practice in the banana production industry.

Pequenina como a sardinha — "Small like the sardine", something that is small but in a positive way.
Madeira Archipelago's bananas are know for being small but really sweet.

Cascos de rolha — "Hooves of cork", meaning a place that is very far away.
The Good Bana and Nino Fruit stickers were sent to me by friends living abroad.
Uma agulha num palheiro — "A needle in a haystack", something that is difficult to find.
The famous Chiquita brand no longer sells in Portugal, so finding these stickers turned out to be really difficult.
