The creation of an heirloom.
Even before having children, I knew that I wanted to make them as many things with my own hands that I could. I began with this bamboo crib for my son in the winter of '08-'09. I created a few design criteria for myself that included, the crib must be fabricated from one sheet of 4'x8' bamboo plywood, it must meet all crib specifications set by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, and it must be finished with an eco-friendly product. I chose to keep the design simple and allow the details to occur in the joinery, the "w" inlay and just the inherent make-up of the bamboo. The crib assembles together using Hafele's minifix connectors to allow for easy set up and as my son ages, the also allow me to swap out the front panel for a lower profile one, that's already in the works.
