Hag El Leila Infographic

For this project, we had to visualize our researched data related to our topic and translate it into an infographic. All visuals should be hand-drawn physically or digitally based on our choice.

Hag el Laila means “for this night”. It’s an old Emirati and Gulf traditional occasion where children walk around their area and ask for sweets. The occasion is celebrated on the 15th of Shaaban in the Islamic year. It is said that it is the day when God changed the qibla from Jerusalem to Mecca. For this topic, I wanted to focus more on the sweets and snacks that were distributed to the children. I researched the actual names and what the Emiratis call these them. I analyzed how kids eat or use the products as they are eating them. I designed the infographic as a game for people to interact with and understand the information enthusiastically. All drawings were hand-drawn and designed in a way to give a playfulness in the infographic.
The hand-drawn houses were inspired by the old Emirati houses that locals used to live in. The houses are decorated with colorful geometric designs to give a more playful and youthful look. Each house is styled differently based on the level, doors, cables, and windows.
