In a team of four, the project focuses on prototyping a product or service after approaching a problem in a radius between the campus and Sharjah’s airport. The main points are the conceptual and technical skills of the prototype and how it solves the problem.
We focused on approaching a problem in campus. The research involved interviews with different stakeholders to get user insights and user needs. This led us to understand that designers, specifically craft designers, use their desks no matter how messy it is. But, craft designers like AUS foundation students or ones who like to work in several places (nomads) don’t have the mobility, space, or storage to work on their projects. We started brainstorming ideas for possible solutions. Next, we selected the best potential solutions and tested them out in a low-fidelity prototype. The solutions involve a portable innovation kit and an app in which we worked a lot in understanding technical/conceptual mistakes and improving them. Our brand Tinker creates a community for nomad designers who like to work in more than one place.
We incorporated our stakeholders’ problems and needs into our persona, Ahmed. We reached our problem frame, How can craft designers be nomads? We have seen business workers and other professionals leading a nomadic lifestyle with their jobs, so we want to help craft designers associate themselves with this lifestyle.
The Tinker app provides a service and a community for the craft designers (or, as we say Tinkers). They can connect with other Tinkers, and purchase the toolkit and stationary tools. Our brand also offers a storage service where we store their works and deliver them to their precise location. Lastly, we provide recommendations for spaces Tinkers can work in based on their location, whether it is a specific studio or a workspace.
