BOOK PLATE PRINTMAKING DESIGN

Printmaking I ART 241
Professor Andrew Au

In this project I was assigned to create a bookplate that visualizes the things I'm interested. The project used intaligo processes so I decided to use stippling to create my image.

Materials

Copper Plate
Red etch Ink
Black print Ink
Hosho Paper
Needle
Printpress

I used this photo because it has to deal with fashion. I also edited the design in photoshop which Is another thing I love to do. I cropped the image down and added filters to create a black and white version of the image that was already stippled. I used the image as a reference to know where to stipple. I also traced the outline of the shapes on transer paper to create the image on my copper plate.
PROGRESS UPDATE

This is after about stippling 1000 dots . The process is very time consuming and with such a detailed image it took about 15 hours to finish.
This is the finished plate after soaking it in an acid bath for two hours. After taking the plate out I used polish to remove the etching ink.
These were my resulting prints after inking it up and polishing the plate with newspaper. I also had to take a plastic card and press the ink deeper into the stippled areas to get a darker image.
