Project of the green surrounding street in Wrocław, PL

Location: Wrocław, PL
Wrocław is undergoing a gradual union transformation with the revitalization of former units. Restoring the former splendor of Komuny Paryska street together with the surrounding area is part of the plan above. Mainly the ideal design concept of development is available in publicly available public space with high functional and aesthetic values. The newly created space is a platform for social integration. Currently, there are few places where neighborly life merges in public space. Improving the quality of public spaces friendly cooperation of the community. In the future, the street can be turned into a woonerf, which combines the functions of a street, a pedestrian street, a parking lot and tourist meeting places. The extension of the area to be used by the entire zone can be beneficial for the processes of connecting between apartments, which may be significant due to the revitalization process of Wrocław.The main assumption was to minimize the set of new elements and to rely on the existing structure. Thanks to the integrated assumption of the integrated development concept with the historical preservation of the frontage arrangement. A public space without barriers was created, for everyone (no difference at the level), dedicated to all social groups, which improves the quality of social life in Przedmieście Oławskie, services, traditions and urban character.The project covers the preservation of urban interiors developed through the lines of frontage buildings and the degree of urban genetics of this range Design solutions are matched to the knowledge of style and features that were composed using the language of historical planning. Elements such as shaping street routes in the areas for frontage construction, introduction of pedestrian, bicycle and road lanes, as well as street furniture, high quality applications, and adaptation were used. The project includes a number of different meeting places. More formal stops on the plane to the bench along ul. Paris Commune. Less formal is furniture around an art café or a nearby bazaar.
Komuny Paryskiej Street was shaped as a downtown street with calmed traffic and providing comfortable communication conditions for walking and cycling (with a two-way bicycle path). Shaping the safe space for all users and limiting the availability of cars to the extent ensuring the necessary service of services along streets, and access to adjacent properties, including backyard spaces, as well as creating green parking spaces (covered with ruderal vegetation) were considered to be priorities. Project on the section between Plac Trójkąta with ul. Prądzyński was designed in such a way that in the future during local celebrations it would be possible to close this section, creating a uniform promenade. There were no changes to the location of bus shelters and bus stops.
Triangular Square is a space that responds to the needs of the city and residents. The current cubature has been transformed into an exhibition pavilion. On the axis of the pavilion, a platform was designed, which in the future can serve as a stage for local celebrations, and a characteristic element was introduced: a lantern - referring to the lanterns in given historical carriages (repeated in the green area). The exhibition function provided in the old building, like a magnet, attracts with its activity for most of the day, and the use of insulating green separates it from the busy street.

The neighboring free area located in the nearby area was transformed into a diverse space of both urban and housing nature, divided into two parts by cubature, intended for small grocery stores, art cafes and a place for local groups (e.g. common room). On both sides a multi-functional square was created for suppliers of local products (bazaars), and on the other hand, e.g. for outdoor cinema. Both of these spaces enable the organization of mass events. The proposed volume blends in with the surroundings. Thanks to the green roofs, the inhabitants of the surrounding buildings see the greenery through the windows of the square. Collected rainwater from the roofs is reused in the irrigation system and for flushing toilets. Thanks to the solutions adopted, the design area will be an attractive place at different times of the day, week and year: in the spring, fairs with early fruit and vegetables are planned, breakfast market and neighborhood meetings, in summer - film screenings, outdoor concerts, star observations, fan zones, vintage car shows and outdoor gymnastics, in autumn - mushroom market, hobby market and decorative pumpkin making competitions, while in winter a small ice rink and Christmas markets.
Plots area at the intersection of ul. Commune of Paris and ul. Pułaskiego remained undeveloped and functions as a green area. This is a kind of tribute to the history of the place. Mainly, flower meadows with beehives and herb fields were proposed there, which contribute to raising ecological awareness and refer to the important aspect, which is the protection of biodiversity in cities. This area was connected by triangle-shaped communication routes. This motif repeats on many elements of development, also in the form of small architecture, in an unobtrusive way. The existing cubature has been reduced and moved to the square at the Triangle. A high green row from ul. General Kazimierz Pułaski, which is the background for the developed area and provides buffer protection for busy streets, which will also contribute to building the spatial intimacy of the new composition assumption.

It was decided that the design and the technical solutions used would be environmentally friendly, therefore the following pro-ecological solutions were adopted:
- collecting rainwater (used for irrigation and toilets);
- hvac system (integrated ventilation and air conditioning system);
- cantilever shading (protection from excessive sun);
- photovoltaic panels (reduction of electricity consumption);
- gray water recycling (water reuse);
- green roof (thermal insulation);
- natural materials (adapted to changing conditions);
- green-walls (green walls reducing noise);
- native species of trees and shrubs;
- flower meadows (increase of biodiversity, reduction of heat islands, urban bees);
- rain gardens (putting water into the ecosystem).
The proposed vegetation blends into the designed floor in an openwork manner and creates a coherent form that can be modulated (repeated). Greenery was proposed in the form of traditional forms of flower beds, rows of trees, rain gardens as the most important element of the project and the basic means of improving the quality of public space. The purpose of species selection was to list species that are easy to care for. Due to the place charter, the presence of large trees and the anticipated functions of the area, the species selection was reduced to the following species:
- native species of trees and shrubs: Small-leaved linden, Field Maple, Swine Dogwood, Single-seeded Hawthorn, Kalina Hordowina, Rosehip, Blackthorn.
- species of meadow vegetation: Common Cornflower, Common Bailey, Wild Carrot, Field Scabbard, Bird Vetch, Common Chrysanthemum, Yellow Zagorzalka.
- species of ruderal vegetation: Common Babka, Mugwort, Stellaria arnica, Little Lniczka, Common Dandelion.
