Design of greenery in Sokołów Podlaski

Honorable mention in the competition
Location: Sokołów Podlaski
The goal of the developed concept is to create a public space that stands out in terms of aesthetics and functionality. The transformation of industrial areas into usable is a multi-stage process and leads to the improvement of spatial order based on the principles of sustainable development, as well as the creation of friendly infrastructure for the Industrial Park.

Module. The floor, greenery and elements of small architecture were inscribed in the main module 1 x 1 m, on which the concept was built. The surface built of cobblestones gives a chance to integrate greenery with the floor, creating a banded arrangement of permeating pavement with greenery. The design does not affect the existing pedestrian path, but creates a co-existing leisure unit. The principle of universal design was guided. Although each of the development areas is a separate unit, the surfaces have been designed in such a way as to enable them to harmoniously connect in the future.

Green. The introduced greenery is insulating. Functional and resistant to activities related to the industrial character of the object, does not require excessive care, and is also resistant to low temperatures. In addition, it has phytoremediation properties - improving air quality. The principle of continuation of the plantings used so far was followed - the species link at ul. Węgrowski.

Use species such as:
Trees: Common hornbeam,
Green area under the trees: Ivy,
Hedge: Yew,
Ornamental shrubs: Bouquet hydrangea "Limelight",Crying: Swedish Cotoneaster 'Coral Beauty',
Flower meadows. Flower meadows have been designed in such a way as to enable their natural expansion. In the future, growing larger areas can create green lungs for surrounding industrial buildings.

Materials
Flooring. The main communication space is built of light gray cobblestones with dimensions 0.2 x 0.2 m. Straight, regular lines of the cube covering the usable space give an interesting visual effect of the system with an offset of 1/2 the width of the cube.

Elements of street furniture
Benches. The form of the bench combines modern technical solutions with a classic style. The construction is based on solid profiles forming the frame of the bench. However, slightly narrower profiles were added as a decorative element of the backrest.
Baskets. The classic version of the basket on the post. The entire structure is made of steel in black, matching the elements on the facade of industrial buildings. Simple basket design with functional planting.
Bicycle racks. Serial model. The frame is a bent steel pipe to which stands made of rods for 4 bicycle vehicles are attached. Embedded on a concrete foundation. Simple and minimalist form.
