HOPPER – Interdimensional drinks tap.

Elmwood 2019 - The Future Brief, Today

Hopper
From our tap to yours.

Look, we get it. Buying beer can be a proper pain.

The market is currently saturated with so many beer brands and types, it is often incredibly hard to find the right beer for you. Do you want a pale ale, an IPA, a stout or a cider, or do you try something new at the risk of not liking it and wasting your money?

Many breweries will increase the costs of their alcohol just because of the packaging they’ve used, how far it has travelled to get to your house, or the carbon footprint it has made. You can spend hours looking through websites to find the perfect one, waiting a week for it to be delivered from Denmark, only to find it’s in cans instead of bottles.

All of these subtract from what you really want - be it a craft beer at the end of the day, a cold cider on a hot day, or an IPA with your mates before a night out.
Hopper uses brand new revolutionary portal technology to send the beer that you want, directly to your tap, straight from the brewery – with no pipes, bottles or cans to get in the way, you can now get the highest quality beer possible, at the lowest cost possible. With alcohol from hundreds of breweries and distilleries from around the world, not only do you
now have unprecedented choice over what alcohol you want, you can have it at any temperature, at draught quality, much cheaper than if you were to order with an online company or at your local.

Furthermore, the ability to quickly send alcohol straight to your tap means you can
place Hopper wherever you want. Go on, put it on the ceiling, on top of a cabinet or in
the bathroom.

We won’t judge.
Our motto
‘From our tap to yours.’
We mean this. We want you, our humble customer, to get the highest quality beer you deserve, just how you want it, straight to your tap.

Values
As an alcohol company, we aim to be approachable, fun and down to earth. At the end of the day, beer is meant to be enjoyed with people you care about, and we aim to be apart of that.

However, alcohol is also meant to be enjoyed safely, and at sensible levels. Checks and measures will be built into the app if we feel a user is wrongly using our service in a way which could harm themselves and others around them.

Target Audience
Our target demographic is those over 30 years of age. As a company, we believe that our service is to be enjoyed as an experience for those who appreciate the art of distilling, brewing, tasting and discovering what breweries around the world have to offer.

However of course, if you happen to fall into that 18-29 bracket, you are still more than welcome to use Hopper, and many congratulations on your youth.
Logo and Colours
Both our name and logo are harks back to Bavarian logos and design language of the past. We chose Hopper as our name, as not only does it reflect the ingredients used of many Bavarian beers, hopper also means a dispenser, a way of getting grain from silo to another, a key part of making beer.

The logo takes design cues from old blackletter German fonts of the era, as well as many older Bavarian beers of the time. At we thought revitalising and updating the older style of German type was a good way to inject life into a style not commonly used or seen in today’s design language.

The colours of Hopper are grounded in the history of Bavarian beer labels. Earthy tones of browns, yellows and greens were often used for packaging. To add a new sense of life, a punchy coral was added to the mix, which both draws in the eye, and adding a modern twist on an old design classic.
Packaging
Users receive Hopper after they have created an account and signed up for
credits or Pay-as-you-pour. As such, the packaging has been able to stay as aesthetic and as close to the Hopper’s visuals as possible, without barcodes and other commercial marks getting in the way due to it not being physically sold in stores.
How it works
Priced using credits in the form of pints, Hopper allows customers to have both a ‘Pay-as you-pour’ system, where users can pay individually for drinks as and when they want, and a system where users can ‘top up their tap,’ using credits.

Whenever a user decides to have a drink, they can choose a beer of their choice, and have it sent to Hopper directly,  immediately ready to pour. Depending on what system they have chosen, it will charge them for the pint straight away, or it will come out of their ‘allowance’ of pints.

This Hopper system allows for a both a streamlined user experience, and a cheaper alternative to cans, bottles or going to a pub, as no packaging has been used, and no transport costs have been added, due to the transportation technology built into the tap.

Exhibition / pop up bar:
To show the public this new brand, pop up bars will appear in and around towns and cities. Hopper taps will be placed upon glass pedestals to highlight the lack of pipes or wires connected to the tap itself, thus drawing attention to the brand and the nature of the portal
technology being used by Hopper.
