Pixel Art 3D Exploration
Pixel Art, 3d or 2d, usually insists on a rigid square-based grid and on the individual pixel's color to produce illustrations with characteristic features.
Deriving from Seurat's pointillism, it spreads with the 8-bit games of the Eighties and today becomes a high-resolution reinterpretation of the limitedness of those times, full of nostalgia, a desire to return to simplicity, single point and safe stereotypes.
This art - characterized in its classic form by homogeneous color backgrounds and few details capable of defining characters, objects and settings - sees the pixel almost vanish, relegated to a characterizing factor through the sole property of color; it is the grid that really defines the shape.
This project, developed in Blender, is the attempt to explore and reinterpret Pixel Art considering the pixel, and not the grid, as the lowest common denominator, a living actor with its own volume and weight, capable of freeing itself from the rigid checked cage up to assume the role of the undisputed protagonist of the illustration.
