UX/UI: Novice Pilot Application (AirLog)

Goal: It was a month long school project about creating an interface to help pilots' learning process and their experience in flying a plane.

Task: For the interaction design, I was one of the core UX designers for coming up with organization and structure needed in the interface. Throughout our first prototype to finalized version, we mainly used heuristic evaluation, expert review, and think-aloud method to research users and evaluate the interface design.

Throughout the project, I participated in many steps involving the site visits to flight center, designing the interaction of the interface and creation of prototype. During the site visits, I took photographs and recorded the interviewees response to our semi-structured questions. After this step, I studied the findings and contributed to the interface design of AirLog by storyboarding and ideation sketches. Our prototype was created using Illustrator, Photoshop, HTML and CSS.

Challenge: The difficulty I faced in this project was about our project's target audience, who works with a complex machine. In order to learn quickly about our users and their needs, we chose to do many site visits and prepared semi-structured interview to obtain indepth information in a short amount of time. Overall, I learned the process and work that goes into creating an interface presenting the large amount of information in consice manner.

Result: As a team, we created a prototype, which works on iPad, and learned to present and organize various information on an interface.

During the project, our group did several site visits to Sea Land Air Flight Center to conduct interviews with students and instructors. Also, I got to see the various control panel of the planes, which helped our group to come up with the initial designs of AirLog.
