Goal: It was a solo graphic design and marketing project for VACFSS (Vancouver Aboriginal Child and Family Services Society)'s Annual Coffee House Fundraiser.
Task: As their main graphic designer, I produced the final look for poster, program brochure, banner, and signs for marketing the event on printed materials and various social media platforms: Twitter and Facebook. During the actual event, I worked as a photographer. The third task was to communicate the happenings during the event day on the Facebook event page. Main focus of these tasks was to capture VACFSS's brand and unique cultural identity. Then, I consistently applied these elements into design of all marketing materials.
First, I looked at VACFSS's logo to decide on the color scheme (turquoise and red) that fits the existing brand look. Second, a significant part of design is the consideration of cultural identity. West Coast Salish pattern and carving was used in the background since VACFSS respect the fact their service is based on their territory.
Using Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign and Lightroom), I made the poster, program, banner, and signs for the fundraiser event.
Challenge: This second major project I was involved with VACFSS presented two challenges. First one was to render a culturally representative design. By researching the West Coast Salish art forms, I was able to achieve this.
Second challenge was to apply the design framework to all marketing materials depending on their use. The dimension, font size, amount of text and layout had to be changed. In the end, I learned to utilize quick sketching technique to visualize the look.
Result: In the end, I was able to create a package of marketing materials suitable for the fundraising event and the Indeginous community who I will be communicating with through them.
