"Time management" is a phrase feared by many. A lot of them are people called creatives. Sticking to a time-table is usually as difficult as unleashing full creativity on-demand. Combining both is exhausting and often leads to a burnout.

Apps for time management and productivity are great, however, they all require picking up the biggest distraction generator - your smartphone. Desktop apps with timers work well, though they are easy to close by accident, or worse, easy to forget to even use them in the first place.

FOKI is a distraction-free, numberless and textless device that uses simple timeboxing to keep your focus tack sharp. It divides your time into four periods long periods, with short breaks between them, rewarding with a long break at the end of chosen time cycle. It fuels your attention and does not require any. Control your focus with ease.

Rather than relying on an app or the "Internet of Things", FOKI is a simple device with a clearly defined function. To inform. To inform when it is time for a break, to inform when it is time to focus.

For that specific task, an Arduino board with an ATmega328 chip is perfect. It requires virtually no power when on standby, it is easy to program and to control. Together with a 650mAh battery this device can be left turned on for a full work-week without needing a charge. Leaving the device in the "Menu" state for a while puts it in sleep mode, and tilting it forward wakes it up - a tactile form of saying "Hi".

The display is a simple 8x8 LED matrix module; it is going to spend most of the time being off, only turning on to help you choose the time management profile and to inform you when it is time to pause.

Lastly a small vibration motor is present to gently invite you back at your desk once it is time to focus again. A gentle knock notifies, but at the same time it is subtle enough not to interrupt people around you.

Pick a time setting that you feel most is the most suitable for the task and a simple click of a button will get you started. After the start animation you're presented with...
a blank screen, which means that it is time to focus. After 10 or 25 minutes (depending on the time setting) a square will light up at the top left corner, informing you that it is time to pause for 3 or 5 minutes. Use that time to stretch, take a few steps, feel free to be distracted. A calm knock-knock will notify you once it is time to focus again. The screen will go blank - just rinse and repeat. Four squares on the face of the device indicates a long break of 15 or 30 minutes.

The four main time cycles are variations derived from the famous Pomodoro Technique and consist of 25-minute intervals of focus, 3-5 minutes for short breaks and one long break of 15 or 30 minutes.

The last, bonus cycle of 10-3-30 is very effective with subjects that were diagnosed ADHD, as discovered by Dr. Russell A. Barkley.

Picking one of the five options will begin chosen cycle.
