The United Nations Secretariat Building Renovation

As the executive vice president of Elite Building Corp, Michael Snedeker is responsible for identifying potential development projects in Waltham, Boston, and other cities in Massachusetts. Michael Snedeker has helped the company in securing multiple public and private contracts, such as the renovation of the United Nations Secretariat building.

The UN Secretariat renovation project involved a redesign of both the interior and exterior to modernize the building’s appearance and improve its structural integrity. The renovation also covered the installation of a new elevator, fire protection, and communications and technology systems. The redesign also made the building compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The UN Secretariat building was the first high-rise building to use a suspended wall system. The new curtain wall resembled the original sleek and taut look, but safer and more sustainable. The installation of the new wall was done by section, beginning from the bottom to the top, with each section comprising ten stories.

To ensure the building’s sustainability, the renovation included the installation of energy-efficient lighting systems equipped with room sensors. Demand-Control ventilation was also incorporated into the structure. A more sophisticated system of building management was also employed.
