Amid the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent business closures, Boston was ahead of the pack in closing non-essential businesses. To re-align policies with the state, the city is planning to slowly re-open construction projects.

As of May 18, construction on hospitals, public schools, road and utility work, one-to-three unit residential buildings, and open-air construction has resumed. Construction companies must adhere to some guidelines. For one, companies must draft safety plans that explain how they will implement measures that protect against the transmission of the virus.

Construction workers are expected to submit to regular temperature checks. Moreover, companies will also be required to install portable restrooms that are equipped with warm water and hand soap. Protective gear will also be provided to prevent the transmission of the virus.
