The Print and Imaging Experience Booklet

For my GIT 250 Intro to Commercial Print we were required to make a 12 page booklet in Indesign about the printing process/our time working in the ASU Print and Imaging Lab.

Now obviously ASU's colors are maroon and gold but as you can see I am quite tired of the color scheme so rather than focusing on the university for design and color scheme I challenged myself to come up with my own.

When creating color palettes I like to open up a plain document and experiment and see what works. These were the colors I was inspiredby and I played around with variations of each color. I initially wanted to use the red and magenta with the two shades of blue (lower left corner) but I felt that they were all competing for attention. Not enough contrast. As a little trick I placed a black and white filter over the colors and looked at values of each color; this led me to the current color scheme with the three blues and red (lower right). these colors felt more cohesive and allowed me to use each one for different aspects of the design.

The next step was page layout. For this I already knew how I wanted it to look but just for fun I made a mock up design anyways!
I kept true to my original idea for the most part but decided not to use circular frame borders or the use of Pantone 318 C that much.

At one point I did have my professor look at my work and offer suggestions to which he recommended adding some circular shapes to go with the smooth motions of the waves, as well as adding a curved path for the titles on each spread. I took these ideas in mind and implemented them into my work and I can agree it looks more intriguing!
And finally all the requirements for my InDesign project were things like create vector art for each spread (pictured above and on the cover of my booklet), 50+ words of text, 2+ images per spread, etc.

Overall this was a huge and stressful project but I enjoyed making it! I spent countless hours in the computer lab and I couldn't be prouder with the results, so with out further adieu here is the final product:
I learned a lot and I hope to continue improving in my work and aspirations!
