MPA Design Competition

Brief:

“My Maritime Impressions” T‐Shirt Design Competition is organised as part of Singapore
Maritime Week 2013, by MPA (Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore) and supported
by LASALLE College of the Arts.

Participants are required to design a T-Shirt by drawing inspiration from what they like,
or what captures their imagination, about Maritime Singapore.

My Design Concept:

Since one of the missions of MPA is to develop Singapore as a premier global hub port, I chose to illustrate how ships from different parts of the world dock in Singapore for the purpose of trade, transit and tourism. Despite being such a small country, Singapore has a port which is incomparable in terms of efficiency and volume of international shipping traffic. It is a symbol of inter- national ties, binding Asian, African, European, American and Australian economies.

The entire world is portrayed within an anchor, the best-known symbol of the maritime world. It shows how Singapore port “anchors” all the countries down so that they can be efficiently inter- connected.
