This project involved a series of abstract yet non-reductive exercises, orienting towards studying and creating formal, spatial and material relations of architectural forms. The objective was to define an intellectual proposition operating in the post-digital era by developing an understanding of fundamental architectural conventions. The final form kept varying with each step of the process, finally leading to a Pavilion design. Using algorithms and modules, we initially created the foundation for developing and investigating design approaches, formal explorations expressed through various mediums.
The first phase of the project was involved in investigating architectural elements through a series of algorithms and simulations. I, then worked on materialising these 2D elements into 3D forms to launch the initial investigation into a physical and material realm. My next step was to create a site utilizing the structure as a catalyst, to determine it’s spatial qualities. Throughout this process, we had to visualize and conceptualize an architectural proposal for the project.
My design was oriented towards creating an antagonistic relationship between the structure and site whilst also tying these elements together. I have created a site with an organic dynamism, the structure showing a polarizing style to the site by exhibiting a static and tectonic quality. The project leans towards a biomimetic entity by taking inspiration of elements from the nature implemented into the form.
