Urban Threshold | New Architectural Element

An architectural threshold is an opening which connects two dissimilar spaces. The objective of this project was to document, catalogue and represent various architectural thresholds in New York City.

The core objective was to create and propose a threshold which speculates on possible transformations (experiential/physical/geometric) between two spaces. The final threshold exhibits distinct architectural and spatial characteristics resulting from the hybridization of diverse thresholds. This final spatial structure helps us speculate the hybridization that is occurring all over the world.

The urban threshold incorporates various elements which have been explored and spatialized to create an architectural element which displays distinct spatial characteristics. The final aggregate not only amplifies but also reinforces the process of hybridization. I have focussed and oriented my threshold with continuity as my core concept, drawing on parallels and developing a flow in my design. The final model divides two diverse spaces while behaving as a transitional experiential portal.
