THE TELL-TALE HEART.

During my second year we was tasked with taking a short story from a small selection and using typographical methods, designing our own book. Reading The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe, i thought this gave me the most opportunity for design elements. Taking away the dark nature of the story i wanted to stick with this theme, the main protagonist being partially blind and the eye being a main focus of the story i wanted to communicate this on the cover. I used the dust jacket to show through only the white of the eye to draw attention and emphasis to it , which i think was effective.

Throughout the book i use a strong presence of  typography to display and communicate what it is being spoken, for example when the main protagonist is shouting the words fill the composition. I feel that this really helps to tell the story and along with the white space makes it easy to follow. Experimenting with different papers for both the inside and front cover, i didn't want something that would be too heavy and over bearing for a short story. When bound by using glue the size and weight of the book worked well with each other, adding the dust jacket brought it all together nicely.
