These are three in a series of knit pieces made of waste electric material, in which the cable functions as yarn. Two are displayed on the needle they were knit with. These pieces show discarded industrial waste (obsolete technological artefacts) subjected to an artisanal practice. Knitting as a process is also historically linked to women’s work– and the feminist art movement. The work aims to reference the phenomenon of planned obsolescence. As non-biodegradable and un-recycled technological detritus, which continues to occupy landfills and the oceans, these works aim to consider technological waste as raw material once more, alluding to an eco-feminist perspective.
