RESIDENTIAL WIFI HARDWARE

Residential Wifi Hardware
USER-CENTERED industrial DESIGN MAKES A DIFFERENCE in the home
INDUSTRIAL DESIGN CHALLENGE:

Satellite is increasingly seen as a viable alternative to fibre, cable and mobile wireless and ViaSat has become the go-to company for high-speed broadband worldwide. Designing hardware (e.g., routers and outdoors satellites) which are more aesthetically pleasing, as well as user friendly, is a critical part of their strategy for residential market penetration—we were tasked with providing a wide-range of design guidance and services.

SOLUTION:

Viasat residential products deliver fast two-way data by satellite for web browsing, video streaming, file sharing, and other bandwidth-intensive internet applications. With over 2 million shipped to homes in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Australia, these products needed to be compact and easy to install.

We worked with scientists and engineers, championing user-centric design as the guiding force for the design and construction of residential wifi routers to outdoor satellites. Using an iterative design process, we were tasked with providing a wide-range of guidance and coordination—training in design thinking for engineers, advocacy with senior management, user research and analytics, and design schematics.
