This project required that I choose a random object and photograph it to use as imagery for a book. The text, Spontaneous Effort, is an article provided to me to be used in the book. I was tasked to create relationships between the images, text, and graphic elements. The object I chose is a shoelace, I photographed it laced through shoes in a street-photography-like style. To contrast the grit, I used bright colors and playful typefaces such as League Spartan and Blockhead. There are illustrations on top of some of the images to highlight certain shapes. Tying shoes is sort of elementary so I figured that a child-like aesthetic was fitting. The binding of the book is similar to a stab bind, but the book is bound using a shoelace. There are grommets pushed through the book and a shoelace tied through them.
