A Tale of Star-Crossed Lovers was one of the main programmes in the 11th KL Butoh Fest 2018. Nyoban Kan and KL Shakespeare Players joined hands to (re)present and deconstruct Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The essence here wasn’t to unfold the tale in the conventional, chronological way. But rather through a weave of movements, both graceful and grotesque; with an ethereal soundscape, of wails, words and music; and with sometimes shocking tableaux.
Echoing the previous concept and layout design for the other programme 地藏_Earth Womb, I gave this a more western sensibility in term of the typography treatment.
