Torbay Week Website

I have been working on the Torbay Week website since late 2012. The previous website had been built and added to over the last few years and needed an update and refresh. We took the existing branding and started anew... I took the four shades of blue and used them as my colour palette and used Pragmatica-Web for the text. I asked sailors and visitors what information they wanted and needed, and planned the website accordingly. The top menu navigation is on every page and has a link to all the pages, ensuring that each page is only a click away. On the home page, there are also three main buttons, linking to the sailing information, the shoreside visitor information and the club information, so the user can find what they are looking for as quickly as possible. Almost every page has the sponsor logos and links, and the burgees for all four of the organising clubs. The text is big and easy to read, using a dark blue to match the branding, instead of black type on a white background, which can be too harsh to read extensively on a screen. The links are all in pale blue to help differentiate them from the rest of the text. 2013 was the 200th year anniversary of the first Sailing Match in the bay, so we added a feature of a history timeline, with pop up boxes of information, and links to PDF's of old programmes and posters. There is also a Supporters Wall, for the supporters of the event. I had access to all the photography from Jean Border (Borderphotos2010.com) to use on the website, and I used a big shot of the fleet sailing as the background of the site, with a blue tint. Her images are also used throughout the site. The site also has an online entry form so that our entrants can enter online, which links to the entrants page, so whenever you enter, your details are uploaded to the entrants page straight away.
