The INDIGO Story: Dyeing

A Bolt From The BLUE
Dyeing, a technique practiced from ancient times, is a medium to express things on fabric. This project focused on achieving perfection in dyeing and using minimum techniques to achieve straight lines.
Trying different clamps, At first I came up with this petal shaped resist dye.
Realizing there being no perfect petal shape, I chose to go ahead with straight lines.
The next step was on to deciding the keywords and depicting that through different methods of shibori. The keyword I chose was depth and tried to show that through the yin-yang ball.
This gave me the inspiration to work on a stronger concept to show depth. Instead of going into complications, the portrayal of simplicity can also show depth.
The Final Output
“ The most important form in nature is considered to be a circle. Origin of life, a single cell, the entire world is a compressed sphere. Thus the artwork represents the idea that no matter how powerful the inorganic / artificial world becomes, the organic world would always be mightier”

Cloth: Voille (cotton) Measurement: 1 metre x 1 metre
