SPAIN 2017 Chapter 7 Paragraph 1

SEGOVIA
Chapter 7 Paragraph 1
16 August 2017
Segovia, again Segovia. Oh yes, how can leave it?
Today a stage of transfer to another city, but not without having visited the interior of the Alcazar. Yesterday evening we did the outside in Golden hour and at night; this morning we will visit the interior. If the exterior was wonderful, the interior is amazing.
The Sala del Trono preserves the coat of arms of the monarchs with their motto "Tanto Monta", located under the canopy.
In the Royal Chamber you can see, on its walls, scenes of family life of the Catholic monarchs. The bed has a brocaded and gold braided blanket.
The Sala della Cambusa takes its name from the old coffered ceiling that had the shape of an inverted hull. It was built by Queen Catalina de Lancáster in 1412. The frieze is of Mudejar plaster with a double inscription: the upper one with a Eucharistic prayer and the lower one with information on the construction of the hall. In the windows there are two windows that represent Henry III of Castile and his family, and the other Henry II with scenes of the death of Peter I and John II. One of the walls is decorated with a painting that represents the coronation of Queen Isabella "the Catholic" in the church of San Miguel of Segovia (remember?).
The Hall of the Kings was commissioned by Philip II to Hernando de Ávila to design the corresponding statues to the kings of Asturias, León and Castilla. One of the paintings represents the portrait of Philip II himself, and the other two are portraits of two of his wives, Isabella of Valois and Anne of Austria.
Not to be less interesting is the current artillery museum, reachable after passing other beautiful rooms and the inner church, where there are also numerous treatises on geometry, physics, chemistry and geology, all of this, obviously, for military purposes.
The Tower of John II culminates in a large panoramic terrace, from which we have admired a splendid view of the city and the bleak, but fascinating, surrounding territory, after a tiring climb to the steep and numerous steps.
Satisfied, we return by car, and this time to finally leave this wonderful city, taking the opportunity to capture some details that we encounter walking. Goodbye Segovia!
