SPAIN 2017 Chapter 6 Paragraph 3

SEGOVIA
Chapter 6 Paragraph 3
15 August 2017
Segovia By Evening and By Night. The charm of historic cities in the emphasis of the correct lighting, together with a favorable surrounding environment, make them incomparable.
We escape from La Granja to reach the Cathedral right on time to visit the interior. Needless to declaim its grandeur: it is simply obvious. Its elegance (last Gothic church of Spain and Europe), contains its treasures including the collection of styles ranging from the late Gothic, to the Baroque to the Neoclassical, and all in harmony with each other. Countless the chapels and the Retabli more or less finely worked and more or less precious.
We leave the Cathedral to reach another wonder of the city: the Alcazar.
Built on a rocky spur of about 80 meters, it represents, together with the aqueduct, the most significant monument. Most probably of Roman origin and then Visigothic, it was rendered alcazar (fortress) by the Arabs. On these pre-existing remains, Alfonso VI after the "Reconquista" greatly enlarged the construction making it one of the residences of the Castilian kings. In 1474, the journey of Isabella la Cattolica started here to be proclaimed Queen of Castile in the Iglesia of San Miguel.
It's late and we can not enter. That’s great! A beautiful Golden hour spreads over the city... We bounce from side to side to find the best foreshortening, descending with the car on the slopes of the gargoyle that supports the Alcazar. Meanwhile, the Golden hour gives way to blue light and warm city lighting
We go back to the Cathedral, descend again to photograph the city from another perspective. A dinner and we are ready to start again with the shots! The Church of Vera Cruz, founded by the Knights Templars in the 13th century is no less. It is a singular church in the dodecagonal Romanesque style. It is inspired by the architectural structure of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem, where the Order of Templars was established. Now entrusted to the Order of Malta, it is UNESCO heritage. Good vision!
